Honors and Levels of Distinction (2024)

Honors are conferred upon graduating undergraduate students who have displayed a high level of achievement during their university career.

Recipients of honors on academic catalogs for 2021-2022 or earlier receive their degrees with one of the following levels of distinction:

  • cum laude (GPA of 3.5–3.64);
  • magna cum laude (GPA of 3.65–3.79); or
  • summa cum laude(GPA of 3.8–4.0).

Recipients of honors on academic catalogs for 2022-2023 or later receive their degrees with one of the following levels of distinction:

  • cum laude (GPA of 3.5–3.69);
  • magna cum laude (GPA of 3.7–3.89); or
  • summa cum laude(GPA of 3.9–4.0).

These honors categories are based on a student’s cumulative average (including any graduate coursework) at the end of the graduation semester.

The honors category shown in the Commencement program is unofficial and is based on a student’s cumulative average at the end of the term prior to the graduation term; therefore, the honors category in the Commencement program may differ from the official graduation honors category that appears on the student’s diploma and final transcript.

Chancellor’s Honors are conferred upon graduating students who have completed the Chancellor’s Honors Program.
