as i mentioned previously, oats recipes are healthy and are used in many indian recipes and especially in breakfast recipes. for example, it is used in oats upma, overnight oatmeal, oats dosa and also oats idli recipe. this recipe post is dedicated to idli recipe made with powdered quick rolled oats. the texture and taste of this idli is very similar to masala rava idli and you would not find huge difference between both of them. i personally like oats idle recipe as compared to other masala idli, as it is healthy, tasty and moreover can be made in no time.

the recipe of oats idli recipe is easy and simple without much complication, yet some tips and suggestions to make it more perfect. firstly, i have dry roasted rolled oats till it turns crisp. this is a mandatory step and do not powder it without dry roasting it. secondly, i have added grated carrots which is completely optional and can be skipped if nor required. alternatively, you can also add onions, peas and finely chopped beans. lastly, i have added eno fruit salt to skip the fermentation process which can be replaced with baking soda too.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup oats, rolled oats
  • 3 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • ½ tsp urad dal
  • 1 tsp chana dal
  • ½ tsp cumin / jeera
  • few curry leaves
  • ½ tsp ginger paste
  • 2 chilli, finely chopped
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • ¼ tsp turmeric
  • ½ cup rava / semolina / suji, coarse
  • ½ cup curd / yogurt
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp coriander, finely chopped
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 7 cashew, halves
  • ½ tsp eno fruit salt

Instructions

  • firstly, in a kadai heat3 tsp oil and splutter 1 tsp mustard, ½ tsp urad dal, 1 tsp chana dal, ½ tsp cumin andfew curry leaves.

  • also, add½ tsp ginger paste and 2 chilli. saute slightly.

  • further, add1 carrot and ¼ tsp turmeric and saute for 2 minutes.

  • now add½ cup rava and roast on low flame until it turns aromatic.

  • add powdered oats and mix well.

  • transfer the mixture and allow to cool completely.

  • add in½ cup curd and½ cup water.

  • mix well making sure there are no lumps.

  • further add2 tbsp coriander, ¾ tsp salt and ½ cup water.

  • mix well making sure to form an idli batter consistency.

  • rest for 20 minutes or until the rava absorbs water.

  • just before steaming add a ½ tsp eno (fruit salt) and mix well.

  • steam the oats idli for 15 minutes on medium flame.

  • finally, serveinstant oats idliwithcoconut chutneyandsambar.
